Laura Ngan

Hi, I'm Laura Ngan

product owner
human-centered design engineer

I'm a product owner with an engineering background, passionate about blending physical and experiential modes of building and being into clear, impactful products using the human-centered design process.

After graduating with a B.S. in Product Design and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, I spent over five years designing products for a wide variety of users and stakeholders at Liminal Sciences, Peloton, Smart Design, and Osmo. Modern day products often seek to "engage" the user, and I have found it most fascinating to take this to the extreme, designing for preschoolers, critically ill patients, and the completely fatigued.

From a process standpoint, I move fluidly through the full spectrum of design thinking, but especially revel in the cycle of define-design-test that breeds constraints that increase complexity and creativity. I insist on early interactions with stakeholders to mitigate risk and prioritize values, and amidst ambiguous data and technological constraints, I drive teams towards action and progress. My ability to expertly thread design and engineering together results in products that are delightful, functional, and scalable.

Most recently, I owned the product vision and mechanical implementation at Liminal Sciences, a medical device startup building a noninvasive brain monitor. Currently, I live in New York City, where I am seeking product management opportunities to create meaningful products that will inhabit, shape, and brighten the world.
